Hours

Westover’s grounds and outbuildings are open to the public every day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for the occasional private event. The downstairs interior of the Main House is open for small or large groups to tour by appointment. Please email Andrea Erda at aerda@historicwestover.com to arrange a day and time to visit.

Westover's interior is also open for Special Events, Westover Church’s annual Autumn Pilgrimage, during Virginia’s annual Historic Garden Week in April and our annual Holiday Sip & Savor Tour in conjunction with Historic Shirley in December.

Admission

Westover is open year-round for self-guided tours of the grounds, outbuildings and gardens. Admission to tour the grounds is $5; an honor box is located at the entry gate near the parking lot. Payment by check (made out to Westover) or Venmo (@Westover-Gardens) is also accepted. A self-guided brochure can be picked up at the entrance as well.

Interior tours are $30/person and may be arranged by appointment by emailing aerda@historicwestover.com.

Picnics are allowed—please situate your group off to one side of the main house so that others may enjoy the view. All trash must be removed by the group.

Westover is situated along the beautiful new bike path in Charles City County. While we encourage bikers to visit, please note that Westover’s main house, grounds and garden lie 2 miles from Route 5, accessed by a well-maintained dirt road.

Westover is a working farm. Please be mindful and yield to moving farm equipment, horses, carriages, and other work vehicles.

Dogs may be walked on the Westover property provided they are always on a leash.

Interior Tours

Westover’s beautiful interiors showcase ornately-carved plaster ceilings, decorative woodwork, richly paneled rooms, a striking black marble mantelpiece, and a stunning new Kitchen and Dining Room built in 2021 in the former Ballroom. Noted interior designer Charlotte Moss worked her magic in refreshing these rooms while preserving their history. New in 2022 was a complete fabric makeover in the first- floor Parlor, done in partnership with Moss and Schumacher.

Film, Photography & Portrait Sessions

Westover is a wonderful location for commercial photography and film productions. The Main House and Grounds offer many beautiful backdrops and settings for bridal, engagement and family portraits. While we welcome personal and informal photographs by visitors, reservations and payment are required for commercial and formal photography, including individual & family portraits, films, advertisements and commercials.

Portraits & Formal Photography Sessions

Rates:

• Grounds: $50 per two-hour session Monday – Friday.
$100 per two-hour session on select Weekends.
• Main House: $300 per two-hour session on first floor of Main House.
• Dressing Room: Dressing room available for an additional $50.
Please reserve room at time of booking.

Full payment required in advance or day of pictures.
